Going into Tuesday's match play, two new participants had flexed their muscle during the week and secured the top two match play seeds. Jon Borman and Cody Lemieur played fantastic all week but were unable to sustain their high quality play through the knockout rounds. Borman and Lemieur exited in the semi-finals.
Two players emerged from the field and through nature's rainy wrath. Gary Hansen and Jim Albertson battled through the match play bracket to face-off in the final. GOVERNOR T-PAW CUTS THE CHEESE RIBBON May 13th, 2008
Governor Tim Pawlenty was on hand at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Breezy Point Marina II and Dockside Lounge. T-Paw adorned a Paul Bunyan-like lumberjack shirt and was joined by several other guys in ugly red sport coats.
The reason for the ceremony was not clearly defined. However, the underlying struggle with the DNR and local agencies to get the building approved for construction may have been the cause for celebration.
Breezy Point also served as the home base for the Governor's 2008 Fishing Opener.
NEW MARINA II AND DOCKSIDE LOUNGE OPENS May 12th, 2008
The new Resort Restaurant opened the first week in May and offers up spectacular views of Breezy Bay.
Breezy Point Resort went "Green" with an innovative system to handle water run-off to protect Pelican Lake. A huge project, costing several hundred thousand dollars has been installed along with the construction of the new restaurant/ballroom/lounge on the shore of the lake. The local watershed district hails this effort and hopes others follow suit as older buildings are replaced with new "Green-friendly" ones.
It is unclear whether or not the architects were able to maintain the trademark sloping feel of the previous marina. After multiple Captain OJ's, Gary Hansen may no longer be able to claim that is balance is off due to the building falling into the lake.
Number 1 seed Jeremiah Johnson defeated number 2 seed and defending champion, Nick Johnson, 2 & 1 in the final match of the Breezy Point Challenge.
The 9 round marathon tournament ended when the number 1 seed gently rolled his downhill par putt 10 feet into the cup on the 17th hole. The match was a rollercoaster ride that saw Nick up 2 holes on the front nine and down 3 holes at one point on the back nine.
Both players made it through 3 rounds of 9-hole match play to meet in the 18-hole finale. 108 holes of preliminary play and 44 holes of match play were required to crown the 2007 Breezy Point Challenge Champion.
