Exception to the mulligan rule is two balls can be allowed off the first tee if the captains agree. 5.5 Fluffing (Adjusting a lie) Fluffing is not allowed. Lift, clean, and place can be put into play if adverse playing conditions exist and captains agree to use the rule. 5.6 Gimmie Only members of the opposing team can award Gimmies. Penalty for picking up your ball without recognition from your playing partners: .1 1st Offence = Warning .2 2nd Offence = 2 stroke penalty 5.7 Provisional Ball Please play a provisional ball in the following instances: .1 When the location of the ball is in question as to whether it has traveled out of bounds. This will eliminate the need to go back to the original point at which the shot was taken and will, in turn, increase the speed of play. .2 When the ruling of a particular shot is in question. Play both balls through the hole and record both scores. Your group should consult with the head professional immediately following the round to get the correct ruling. .3 In the case that a ball has gone out of bounds and a provisional ball was not played, the player must either re-hit from the same spot or elect to take a two stroke penalty (1 for drop, 1 for distance) and play from the spot where the ball crossed the out of bounds line.
6.0 Format The Ryder Cup consists of: Round 1: Fourball Round 2: Fourball Round 3: Singles Match Play 6.1 Fourball "Four-ball" play is a match in which each member of the two-man teams plays their own ball. Four balls are in play per hole with each of the four players recording a score on the hole. The team whose player posts the best score on that hole wins the hole. Each hole is worth one point. Should players from each team tie for the best score, the hole is halved. Individuals record their gross score for the round. Upon the close of the round, the official scorekeeper determines the net scoring with the application of the individuals handicap. The best net score for each hole among the team members is recorded as the team score for that hole. 6.2 Singles Match Play "Singles" is a match in which one player competes against another player in individual match play. Should players from each team tie for the best score, the hole is halved. A player wins the match when he is up by more holes than there are holes remaining to play. Each hole is worth one point. Should players from each team tie for the best score, the hole is halved. Handicaps apply. Subtract the low handicap from the high handicap. The result is the number of holes the higher handicap will receive a stroke(s). Strokes are applied in ascending order to the hole handicap set forth by the course. 6.3 Scoring Individuals participating the competition will have their individual net hole-by-hole scores recorded for each round in addition to fourball team scores and match play scores. Any match play or fourball round discontinued due to weather or other uncontrollable variables will be recorded as a complete match if the match has exceeded nine holes of play. Each match is worth 1 point. Ties are awarded ½ point. In the event of a tie after all matches are complete, captains have the option to: .1 Settle the tie by selecting one member of each team to participate in a sudden-death singles match. .2 Call the event a draw and payouts are split evenly. .3 The option for either a split or sudden-death must be defined before the singles matches commence. .4 In the event a disagreement on the tie breaker occurs, a coin flip performed by the commissioner determines the tie break method.
